In the world of Final Fantasy, there are some who were given cinematic eye-candy and drop-dead gorgeous looks in which fans would appreciate for a lifetime. The silky smooth hair, zit-free facial features, glittering eyes and cool victory battle poses to name a few give the likes of Aeris, Tifa, Rinoa, Princess Garnet and Yuna an edge over other venerated JRPG characters. There are some who just stinks and were created so that bloggers like me would have something to write.

Enter the unaesthetic world of under-appreciated Final Fantasy girls (women, widow, cougar you name it) as they radiate unappealing roles and diminished appearance minutes on some of our favorite FF classics. These are the personalities that either made us guffawed upon seeing their looks or pathetic fashion statements or clinched because they remind us of our grumpy old professors. Okay, I’m hiding the adjectives behind this – ugly, unappetizing, disgusting and hideous, that’s what they are and hopefully, my five picks won’t disappoint.

1. Queen Brahne – Kuja refers to her as the ‘elephant lady’ and that’s were I almost collapsed in laughter. He’s got a frank humor that belittles all life form not close enough to match his effeminate beauty. Seriously, Queen Brahne is an obese and power-hungry leader you didn’t expect to see in a Final Fantasy game – I was expecting Garnet’s mother, an evil hottie that can summon hordes of evil flesh-eating goblins, but Square Soft decided to stick with a widowed Brahne. Baku almost slipped and almost caller her “babe-licious.”

2. Yunalesca -  In her normal, unsent form, she’s a candidate to become a memorable FF villain if not for Maester Seymour’s feminine voice. During the battle in Zanarkand’s Cloister of Trials, she goes berserk and inflicts the party with status ailments like Silence, Blind and Zombie in which, the latter shouldn’t be removed. Did I spoil anything? Yunalesca transforms into a crazy bitch with a demonic counterpart acting as a huge ethereal tail or something. A meaty representation on how evil and disgusting co-exists when battling Yevon’s first murderer. Yeesh!

3. Fran – I don’t know what the name of her race was much similar on how fast I forgot what Final Fantasy XII is all about. She’s got the body but those bunny ears does not suit her – I wonder how Baltheir manages to get around her. Maybe I just don’t have a thing with demi-humans. Racism, check!

4. Final Fantasy Tactics Female Black Mage – What is hidden beneath those streaky yellow eyes? I simply don’t know. Unless the character developers can give us a picture on what they look like without those disheveled blue robes and pointy hats then, your class will remain in the fourth spot of my D-list. Sorry.

5. Freya – Last but not least is another entry from Final Fantasy IX – the rat-faced Burmecian Dragon Knight is despised, once again, by Kuja and almost eradicated her clan thanks to the Dark Matter she gave to Queen Brahne. Cleyra suffered doomsday and Freya’s hamster pals were caught in the cataclysmic destruction brought by Odin. Rats are not good and it’s enough for me to say that Freya is not beautiful because she’s a rat. Nuff said! She also has a boyfriend named Sir Fratley and he’s also a rat. Boo!

Well there you go, I didn’t have to rummage FF’s older archives because all this list is a gimme. A word of caution: remedies won’t have any effect on your cases.

Being surrounded by high covenant walls and high priests do not make a strong and willing princess as such with the case of Princess Ovelia. She enters the opening scene of Final Fantasy Tactics praying for Holy Guidance – Ovelia appears to be one of the franchise’s demure and coy Final Fantasy girls due to her blanketed royal lineage which were falsified by addled upbringing and stature.

Princess Ovelia was part of Duke Goltanna’s attempt to become regent of Ivalice. Her kidnap at the hands of the mercurial Delita clearly gave her that much sobering role in the game. Final Fantasy Tactics was a game of great significance towards the approach to war – you can always use a peasant to become a tool for the power to usurp control over a region or kingdom and henceforth, the likes of Goltanna and Larg represents how greed can take over one’s mind just for the sake of authority.

The poor princess wasn’t even Ovelia. The girl was cradled until she was ready to be released from her safe castle walls, kidnapped and handed over to the Black Ram for protection. Delita, her knight in shining armor, vowed to remain at Ovelia’s side swearing at her dead sister’s name as proof of her unwavering loyalty. Such folly that words could bring.

In one of the most surprising endings in Final Fantasy history, Princess Ovelia died a dog at the hands of a very manipulative king who, was once part of Ramza’s anti-rebel squad who, has his own tale of betrayal to share. The only bar that she could put her hands into was Delita. The tug-of-war for power ended with a knife stuck in her chest killing her until Delita questions his motives upon knowing that Ramza accomplished his end of the bargain of cleansing Ivalice of its evils.

As emotional as it gets, I’ll always remember Princess Ovelia Atkascha as the primary suspect to why I mastered all the jobs and skills for Tactics. She was the X-factor why I played the game almost seven times now and, I will never forget that scene where Ramza taught her to play a monotonous tone from a wilting leaf blade.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a game of experimentation. The first-ever SRPG for the Final Fantasy franchise introduced the job listings and the skills accompanied to each character like offensive spells defensive buffs, passive or support and move abilities. For starters, skills are either offensive and defensive which a specific job can execute – Tactics’ Job Point (JP) System allow a specific class to learn moves depending on the number of JP needed to learn or master a skill.

In honor of the most successful strategy role-playing game of the gaming industry , I have compiled a few select jobs that can coincide with another job’s primary skill. Final Fantasy Tactics, as I’ve said earlier, is a game of experimentation and every job class can be tweaked according to how the players wants him/her to act in the battlefield. The builds and set-ups that I will be posting has worked well for me in both the storyline and optional battles.

1. The Patient Thief Knows How To Increase His/Her Strength – Thieves are known for their speed and response value but, their overall attack damage are minuscule compared to the Knight and Monk. Their Steal skill isn’t often used much because it doesn’t deal damage and often fails more often than not – I created something that most random encounter tanks (e.g. Hydra and Dragon) fear: a Nuker with a nimble feet. This is kind of simple – I just combined the Squire’s Basic Skill, Accumulate, to raise my Thief’s attack power plus, with the kind of mobility t0 evade the Hydra’s Tri Attack and Dragon’s Elemental Breath, this combo is good for areas containing Hydras and Dragons though, not suitable for Red and Black Chocobos.

2. The Dual Wield Knight – A Knight is as powerful as his/her blade. This one is a no-brainer – I just combine the Ninja’s Dual Sword support ability to my Knights. Imagine wielding two Chaos Blades in each hand, not only can you amplify the damage dealt by the game’s most powerful Knight sword, you can also increase the chance of inflicting the sword’s Petrify status effect to monsters. Definitely a must-have for enemies with high HP.

3. The Black Mage With No Use for Ether – Black mages are simply the most vulnerable of the bunch and, without their magic, this class is rendered useless on the offensive. Long battles require black mages to punch out elemental damage to enemies with high HP and the problem with spell-casters is their with their heightened MP. You can solve this small problem by attaching the Monk’s Punch Art as your Black Mage’s secondary ability – the Chakra replenishes both HP and MP and you would rely on this skill to restore a little bit of both. This build gives your healer/s a diminished role in the battle and supports all Nukers with long-range magic spells.

I somehow forgot some of the party set-up that I created and hopefully, my War of the Lions save utility is still alive so I can backtrack and give you more builds. I would be experimenting with the Samurai/Bonecrusher build and how would this sacrificial build survive lengthy battles under critical conditions.
