— Final Fantasy Girls

Dissidia Duodecim is picking up the pace, adding new heroes for both Chaos and Cosmos and Square Enix is not yet through completing the deck for this thrilling sequel that hopes to clean some mistakes from the original Dissidia Final Fantasy PSP exclusive. For sure, fans will be treated to a bevy of updates regarding on who will enlist in the side of good or evil, what will they be bringing to make Cosmos churn out her gentle smile or make Chaos smirk in his pandemonium?

As we all know, Tifa Lockhart, Kain Highwind and Lightning have already joined Cosmos’ roster and it’s scary to think how the bad guys would react to this. The side of evil have tacitly accepted their new adversaries and, they’re still looking for the perfect entropic menace that will make their de facto leader, Warrior of Light, stagger and doubt their rate of survival.

In this week filled with speculations, I focus the spotlight on Dissidia Duodecim‘s resident stoic, Lightning. Her cut-throat attitude would surely fill the ire of Cosmos’s team plus, with the likes of Squall and Cloud embracing negativities along the way, Cosmos would perhaps receive something a bit hurtful in choosing a cold-hearted person like Lightning.

Enough about the fan fiction, let’s try to understand what can Lightning bring into the table:

1. The Paradigm Shift – Final Fantasy XIII was all about gameplay changes and, the Paradigm Shift is one of the game’s landscape-changing outlook in combat. I don’t really need to rehash how Paradigm Shift works so, if the developers are trying to imbue Lightning‘s Bravery skills with limited stock of skills like Blitz for the Commando or Cure for the Medic, this girl will be tough to beat let alone, damage!

2. Alternate costume – According to some reports, Lightning will get to wear Aya Brea’s black sleeveless shirt as part of the Third Form giveaway that Square Enix had initially planned for during the early development stages of the game. I don’t think this is a good idea – snatching away Lightning‘s identity by making her wear something that she doesn’t  have in her closet  is plain peculiar. Stick with her original costume, alternate it by changing color palettes and we’re good to go.

3. Enough with the moping – Square Enix should never attempt to pair her with either Squall or Cloud during storyline encounters. We all know how dark their personalities are so, please Square Enix, try to make Dissidia Duodecim gameplay wise.

As we all know, Tifa Lockhart had been recently added to the list of Cosmos’ warriors and along with Cloud Strife, she’s definitely out to prove that her martial arts can hold out against some of Dissidia Duodecim‘s fiercest warriors. Just this week, we’d been already treated with some high-definition scans of Tifa laying down the smackdown against Cloud’s persistent nemesis, Sephiroth and by the looks of things, Tifa will heavily rely on her striking abilities, what else can we expect from one of Final Fantasy‘s feisty female fatales?

1. Materia lockup – Like Cloud, Tifa Lockhart should have at least a set of basic Magic Materia skills so she can harass her opponents with long-range spells. Unlike Terra or Shantoto, she’ll be dealing less damage with her magic since she’s a fighter – magic like Thunder or Blizzard is enough to scratch some Bravery points until the player is ready to unload the opponent with Tifa’s hard-hitting punches and roundhouse kicks.

2. The cowgirl costume – Final Fantasy VII and its prequel Crisis Core, once saw Tifa as Nibelheim’s tour guide. She once wore that rancher outfit of some sort before changing into a fan service staple that she has been known of; this doesn’t have anything with the combat but, wouldn’t it be nice if Square could throw in Tifa’s vintage look at her alternate costume menu (I know there’s going to be one)?

3. EX-Burst commands – Tifa’s devastating power could be summed up into one rib-breaking (or surrounding-obliterating) attack? I’m pretty sure Tifa, upon entering EX-Burst Mode, will automatically equip her with Premium Heart and her EX-Burst command will take shape in the form of Reel Slots that will determine how strong or weak the attack will be. Weakest I think would be Beat Rush and strongest would be Final Heaven thus, finishing the command with a dynamics mushroom nuke surrounding the knocked-out body of the opponent. And finally,

4. A kick-ass story – Tifa Lockhart deserves a respectable story. She’s not a sidekick anymore, and Dissidia Duodecim will allow her to shine along with the game’s most head-turning Final Fantasy girls of all time, well, I’d exclude Shantoto on this one. :)

I certainly hope so…

After witnessing a disastrous storyline unfurl in front of my 12′ inch television screen, I had to agree with some Final Fantasy XII dissers scattered around Youtube and unofficial Final Fantasy forums because if there’s something that I have to undo if I were Enix’s project manager then it will be the whole story. From start to finish, the experience was excruciating and inconsistent plot jumps made me question Vaan’s purpose and role.
