Final Fantasy XIV Bestiary: A Look At Eorzea’s Hulking Threats

What is Final Fantasy without its lustrous compendium of beasts and bosses? These scary, cowardly, towering and puny beasties is the life of FF adventurers who’re seeking the necessary experience points in order to move on to much dangerous continents and archipelagos teeming with unbelievable species of flora and fauna. Ever since the game was introduced, the astonishing number of monsters gave us the RPG challenge from start to finish, from Goblin to Grand Dragon.
For Eorzea, the region where the story of Final Fantasy XIV takes place, its denizens are fully-aware between the incessant conflicts brewing between man and wild – the ever-clinging threats to the game’s characters is proof that the MMORPG is no walk in the park and, with a few familiar faces, these banes to Eorzea’s populace reeks with dangerous skills capable of killing unwary adventurers sending them to their cold graves.
Here’s a few of Final Fantasy XIV‘s monsters that’ll surely keep you in the edge of your seats.
1. Cactuar – An eponymous guise to a desert’s most common plant, this spiky fiend has known to surprise adventurers with a thorny death. Despite of its diminutive size, Cactuars revel in their state, a discriminated form which the traveler confidently mocks; the Thousand Needles punctures that confidence and sends the adventurer into a plunging demise. A word of caution: Never underestimate the power of Cactuars!
2. Morbol – Popularly known as Malboro from the original Final Fantasy series, this
tentacled monstrosity is gifted with strong fluids and rancid toxins which, when expelled towards the vulnerable skin of the adventurer, develops a myriad of negative status changes. Morbol has developed into a more frightening, poisonous abomination unlike its more comical brethren from previous FF games.
3. Ahriman – Remembered as the Ipsen’s Castle, one-eyed gargoyle, an Ahriman can
instantly turn anyone, without the proper gear or protection into stone with its cursed gaze. Skilled hunters are often overwhelmed by Ahrimans due to their cunning and swift flight turning every advantage into a distinct disadvantage. How can you kill something that fast without ever looking at its burly eye?
The Final Fantasy XIV Bestiary is updated as we speak and, expect that more recognizable monsters will appear as the beta testing for the PC is nearing its end and with that, the codex of Eorzea’s fiends will be surely increased to a hundred more.
